Origin:

This song began at music camp in the coastal redwoods of Mendocino County. I was alone a lot that week, soaking in the magical music all around me, and considering a relationship that had ended several months before due to a breach of trust. This song has touched many people, and continues to be one of the most requested parts songs I have ever written.

Teaching notes:

Rhythm is so so important to this songs. The parts are very syncopated, and it is easy for them to get off. I have taught this so many times, and I still experience this regularly. You must emphasize rhythm by getting everyone clapping and feeling it in their own bodies. Don't be afraid to stop the song and restart it if the parts get off from each other.
